Telehealth and Telemedicine
Telehealth and Telemedicine are frequently used interchangeably. However, telehealth is a more general term that involves the delivery of health care services using electronic information and telecommunications technologies to patients in distant locations from the healthcare provider. It comprises of providing access to care remotely for patients in rural communities, underserved communities, emergency situations, natural disasters and communities with limited specialist providers.
Telehealth also involves, chronic disease management, virtual consultations, patient and provider education, diagnoses and treatment of certain conditions, patient self-management, home health care, remote counseling and several other applications. Telemedicine involves the specific use of telecommunications technologies for direct clinical practice such as diagnose and treatment of patients from distant locations and follow-up consults. It is not considered a separate branch of medicine but rather a tool or service that aids in the delivery of care. Applications of telemedicine are in teleradiology, telepsychiatry, telenursing, telepharmacy etc.
The unique feature of services provided by DrBot Virtual Health is the use of an advanced robot-based telepresence technology called Beam® giving a clinician or health provider the ability to get a comprehensive 360-degree view of their remote patient’s physical condition in real-time through two wide angle HDR cameras for provider and a high-resolution LCD screen for the patient. The provider simply logs into the Beam® account for their facility on a mobile device, tablet or laptop and beams in to remotely control the robot during a virtual consult. The ability of the robot to move easily in the consult room or patient’s bedside as well as the strong feeling of the provider’s eye-level presence by the patient provides
the patient a secure, reliable and personal consult with their healthcare provider. This offers a much better patient experience and virtual consult than the use of hand-held mobile devices, mobile carts or laptops used for the virtual consultation.
